Recommended for those who want to take a quick walk in nature, or who want a quick exercise course before breakfast or dinner. Located between the hotel and Mount Iwate, the "Iwate Prefectural People's Forest" is within walking distance.
Seasonal attractions include the water skunk cabbage after the snow melts, the cherry blossoms until late May, fresh verdures of the white birch trees lining up, the hydrangea in the rainy season, the fireflies in early summer, and the autumn leaves. Bird watching is also possible after the leaves have fallen. Cross-country skiing is also possible. Climbing Mount Iwate is also possible from here.

Hachimantai Summit Grasslands: Yahata, Kuroya, Mogahara

The Hachimantai area is famous for its flowers. After the snow melts in the summer, snow skunks, day-lilies, chingurumas, and the cotton grass bloom in June. The autumn bellflower blooms later in September, when you can also enjoy the autumn leaves. In winter, you can also find the “Kagami-numa” lake, now dubbed as Hachimantai Dragon Eye on top of Mount Hachimantai. It has earned quite a fame on social media sites, due to its likeness to the eye of a dragon.

Highland Roads in Hachimantai Area (Aspite Line & Jukai Line)

40 minutes by car from hotel

These highland roads are recommended to people who like car rides, and who like capturing scenic spots with their cameras. After the winter traffic stop is over, this is Japan's longest, around 27 km long sightseeing road, with a marvelous view starting from the corridor formed by the snow. In addition to access to all moors, the so-called "secret hot springs" of Toushichi, and Matsukawa are also accessible. "BikeJIN," a magazine aimed at people touring by motorcycles ranked Aspite as the number one in "2016's most spectacular streets." (Second place in 2017.)

01 Morioka

Morioka is approximately 55 minutes from the hotel by car.

Explore the many sights of Morioka city! Take a look at the Rock Breaking Cherry Tree, which is said to be standing in the city for the past four hundred years. You can also drop into the Iwate Park, housing the old castle grounds and ruins of the Morioka Castle walls. The Morioka History and Culture Museum is located in the same park. The Konyacho Banya, Morioka’s historic watchtower is also located in this area. Situated in the historic district of Morioka, you can explore many old buildings in the area, including the Bank of Iwate – also called the “Red Brick Building.”

02 Koiwai Farm

The Koiwai Farm has a history of a hundred and twenty years. An example of successful afforestation, the Koiwai Farm is now an abundant, green dairy farm, housing sheep and cattle. Many buildings within the farm are considered Important Cultural Assets in Japan, recognized for their architectural value.
Koiwai Farm Experience activities include trekking in areas of the dairy farm and the forest that are closed off to the public. Tours include exploring around the Important Cultural Assets of the farmland. You can also take a tractor ride to explore some forest routes.
If you feel like trying some products made on the farm, feel free to taste the special Milk Ramen, or the Omelette Rice dishes! Lamb and beef are also available for grill and barbecue on site. Moreover, you can find stores on the farm too, selling the local dairy products.

Explore the most unique locations of Hachimantai!
This hot spring is located at an altitude of about 850 metres, surrounded by a beautiful landscape. You can find three inns in the area, and all of them double as bath facilities, too. The water is a hydrogen sulphide hot spring and will warm you up to the core of your body even during the cold winter time. For women, an open-air bath is also available.
Three buses leave from the hotel to the hot springs daily – a lot of guests make a day trip only, but it is also possible to sleep over at one of the inns after enjoying a relaxing onsen.

This unique part of Hachimantai is a must-see! Not only for people who love trekking. The Yakehashiri Flow of Hachimantai was designated as a special natural monument of Japan. After a volcanic eruption of the Iwate Mountain, these rocks took up a very unique, rounded form upon solidifying, providing an unforgettable scenery.
Enjoy a light trek over the lava flow, or take up on the challenge of climbing the rocks of Iwate. If you do so, you may find the verse composed by Kenji Miyazawa as a memento inscribed there. This is one of the most symbolic spots of the Hachimantai area, also called the “natural volcanic museum.”
